Ernst Bolle

Hey, I'm Ernst.

Product owner by day, data scientist at night. This site is where I gather what I learn about AI, mostly by working through it until it makes sense to me.

AI is exciting and slightly unnerving at the same time. I write down what I figure out and share it here, because what helps me might help you as well.

Blog

Most of my knowledge comes from free blogs and videos created by inspired people who put effort into sharing their learnings. This blog is my way of contributing to the open community, and to share my passion and learnings with you.

About

My most important asset is curiosity. For as long as I remember I love to read, learn, and continuously improve myself. Curiosity is about asking questions, and diving deep to find answers. Some of these questions define my career.

  • Why do people behave the way they do?
  • Is why I studied Psychology.

  • How can I prove my findings?
  • Is why I studied Statistics.

  • How can I drive change with data?
  • Is why I became a consultant.

  • How does it work?
  • Is why I love open source and math.

What I value

The most useful thing I learned in my career had little to do with technique. It is that a good idea is worth very little until you say it out loud. I have worked with people who had sharper ideas than mine and kept them to themselves, and that thinking never went anywhere. So I try to share early, write things down, and keep them simple enough that someone else can use them.

That only works if you actually understand the thing. My way of working has been the same for years: something new appears, half of it is still unclear, and I go after it. Books, courses, evenings spent getting it wrong, until it makes sense. Then I take people with me, because understanding something on your own is not much use to a team.
